A slide plate, base plate, or sole plate is typically
manufactured from cast steel or steel.
The slide plate increases the bearing area
and holds the rail to a correct gauge. They are
fastened to wooden or concrete ties by means
of spikes or bolts through holes in the plate. The
slide plate is used on rail tracks between the
flanged T-rail and crossties.
